One of the glorious things about being a Senior is that the confines of traditional weekends do not apply. (Much like how the great thing about being a philosophy student is that the confines of traditional thinking do not apply!) This week, due to some kind professors, my weekend started yesterday around 4pm, and will continue until Tuesday around 1pm! To say that I love my schedule would not be saying enough!
I've taken on an Honors Thesis this year, which has been taking up most of my time, but in the best possible way. In addition to studying Philosophy, I am minoring in Film Studies. I've combined the two in this project, where I am studying the philosophy of film. My working thesis revolves around the idea that film combines elements of theater, literature and music to create a phenomenological catharsis in it's audience. So in addition to my Eastern Phil. - American Cinema and Existentialism classes, this is where my academic focus is at the time being. (That's Husserl above, kingpin of Phenomenology)
They've just released the course listings for next semester, which is always an exciting time! It's great being able to look at all your options, and figuring out what you're going to take! It looks like I'll be taking Philosophy of War and Truce and Hong Kong Cinema while I finish up my thesis, not a bad way to wrap up my undergrad career!
I had the pleasure of being on duty last night! Now, I realize this needs some explanation...in addition to working for the admissions office, I am an RA (Resident Assistant) and have been for the past two years. I've actually had the experience of living on the 14th floor of Miller Hall all four years of college, and in the same room for three of those years! Part of being an RA, is that you are on duty about 9 nights a month, where you have to be in the building and do rounds, make sure everything is kosher, stuff like that. Luckily everything was quiet last night, it would not have been pretty if anyone had interrupted my Super Mario World playing. That's right, I've held onto my Super Nintendo and Sega, key elements to successful dorm living!
These posts will get shorter, I promise! I've just gotta catch all you up- so you'll understand the posts to come. And there will be many - revolving my thesis, RA events, the Grad School application process and everything else that I get the pleasure of experiencing on a daily basis -- Like meeting a Canadian professional downhill skateboarder by the name of Mike in the Boston Common yesterday! You can't make this stuff up -- enjoy life...
